Mango’s and Zalando’s AI fashion stylists are now up and running, but the AI is proprietary. How do they work, and is there a way you can implement the same?
by YesPlz.AISeptember 2025
Think of yourself walking to a store. A salesperson greets you and asks how he could be of help. You say you need a pair of shoes for a formal event, and he recommends several pairs that match what you are looking for.
You just received the help you needed.
An AI stylist can now perform this task online—it never tires of answering questions and tirelessly scans the entire catalog to find the best matches for shoppers. Both Mango and Zalando are early adopters and innovators, introducing AI-powered stylists to provide their customers with personalized styling services.
This is the big question: can you implement the same thing?
In this article, we will show you what an AI stylist does, how it works on Mango’s and Zalando’s websites, what alternatives you can choose, and more importantly, its impact on your business.
An AI stylist is a shopping companion in an online store that works through a chat box. Think of it as a personal assistant.
You can compare it to a personal, human stylist of a celebrity. For example, Zendaya’s stylist is Law Roach. Law’s job is to find clothing for Zendaya, and these choices depend on the event Zendaya is attending.
A fashion AI stylist works in a similar capacity, and this can function either as an app for a consumer (installed on a phone) or as an app embedded in an eCommerce store like yours.
The latter is what we will review for Mango and Zalando, and we will also discuss how you can implement the same technology in your store.
Mango’s AI stylist comes with three different default prompts, which include a link to its shipping times and method and refund policies.
If you click on any of the prompts, like FRESH SUMMER TRENDS, you get something like this:
The AI browses through the catalog for summer-related products, and you get to see several options. From here a shopper can click on the product thumbnail to get to the product page.
There are three things we want to test with the AI:
Casual date nite suggestions
Comfortable gym outfit
Personalized question
For the first one, we use this prompt, “Please give me casual date nite suggestions,” and this is what we got:
The way Mango’s AI presents the products is by group or by look (Look 1). Overall, it presented three looks. These looks offer a complete set of clothing appropriate for the inquiry.
We next used this prompt: “Suggest a comfortable gym outfit.” This is the result we got:
Unfortunately, Mango doesn’t carry gym clothing. Instead, the AI asks the user specific, probing questions to determine which activities are involved.
In this case, the shopper merely has to add another statement, like jogging, and the AI will check if there are clothes in the catalog for jogging. In this case, there isn’t any.
For the final test, we used this prompt: “I am going to a corporate meeting to present a demonstration to clients. I need suggestions on what to wear.”
This is the response we got:
The results are relevant, and the AI presented several looks that a shopper can choose from. It also does a wonderful job in asking follow-up questions, especially if there is no available clothing related to the inquiry or prompt.
Both mindless browsing and curated suggestions are valuable aspects of the shopping experience, and personalized recommendations from an AI stylist uniquely combine the strengths of both. Shoppers can enjoy tailored selections that they can browse even more efficiently and enjoyably.
For more information about the benefits of using an AI stylist, you can refer to our article, 5 Reasons Why I Like an AI Stylist.
Zalando’s fashion AI stylist is highlighted in red in the image above, somewhere in the middle of the right side of the screenshot.
We gave it a click, and this is its interface:
Similar to Mango, there are default prompts that you, the shopper, can click. We clicked on the “Find me light cardigans for cool nights” prompt, and this is what appeared:
The AI asked a follow-through question for clarity and gave options about the cardigans available. After selecting NEUTRAL TONES (clickable buttons), the AI showed a few options. To get more details about the product, the user has to click on the image thumbnail.
Next, we moved on to using our prompts. For the first test, we used this prompt again: “Please give me casual date night suggestions.”
First, the AI provided four options, so we selected casual dress, and these are the results:
Below the product thumbnails, the user has an option to see more of the product catalog. See image below:
We clicked on “Can I see more items?” and got this:
As far as accuracy goes, we can say that these are all casual dresses that one can wear on a date night. For speed, Zalando’s fashion AI churns out results way faster than Mango’s.
Next, we tried this prompt: “Suggest a comfortable gym outfit for men.” The AI asked us to choose from joggers, shorts, athletic shorts, or moisture-wicking t-shirts.
We can conclude that part of the design is to make a shopper choose from at least four sub-categories of the main inquiry.
Here is how it looks:
Finally, we used this prompt: “I am going to a corporate meeting to present a demonstration to clients. I need suggestions on what to wear. Male clothing.”
The subcategory options the AI provided are:
Classic suit
Business casual
Modern stylish
Need accessories too
We selected modern and stylish, and this is what we got:
Zalando’s AI offers quick results for search, and it does an amazing work with selecting products in the catalog that are accurately related to the shopper’s search or style intent.
YesPlz offers a comprehensive suite of fashion discovery AI tools, one of which is the AI fashion stylist. Like what we did to Mango and Zalando, we tested three prompts to see how the AI responds.
For the first prompt, we asked the AI, “Give me casual date nite suggestions for men.” Below is the result:
Below this screenshot, the shopper gets to see an option for more styles. There is also a “show more” link which, if clicked, shows more products in the catalog that match the search intent.
If you keep scrolling, you’ll see that the AI also offers several prompts that the shopper may be interested in, such as the ones below.
Next, we inserted this phrase in the prompt box: “comfortable gym outfit.” Below is the result.
The AI even recommended some shoes and backpacks that match the gym outfit.
Finally, we entered a more personalized prompt, which is this one: I am going to a corporate meeting to present a demonstration to clients. I need suggestions on what to wear. Male clothing.
This is what we got:
Since these recommendations are personalized, the shopper clicks on one of the products, and then he gets redirected to the product page
IMPORTANT NOTE: the AI chat box does not go away---the shopper retains the chat history while online. It means that if he goes to the product page and decides to check some more clothes, he can always go back to the AI fashion stylist and ask again or view the other recommendations.
Overall, YesPlz delivered flawless execution of what the AI is supposed to do. The results are accurate and speedy—it did not take more than three seconds to provide images and recommendations.
So, is an AI fashion stylist something you can easily integrate into your eCommerce fashion store? Why and how?
YesPlz offers several features that you can capitalize on as a retailer. These are:
Editable Suggested Search—Your merchandising team can highlight certain styles, and the AI will show these styles as top priority. It works perfectly for shoppers looking for something closer to popular trends.
Prompt Analytics—YesPlz AI Stylist analyzes anonymous user search queries. Your management team can view which prompts or words shoppers use the most. Knowing this, you can buy inventory that fits the clothing that your shoppers are looking for.
Smart AI Suggestion—the AI, based on the results of the analytics, generates the relevant suggested prompts (the ones you see at the bottom of the chat box).
To expand further on the last bullet point, the AI knows what thousands of people are looking for. So, if a new shopper comes along, the AI can say, "This shopper has similar tastes and behaviors to the others."
With this conclusion, the AI fashion stylist will create prompts that feel personalized. The shopper will think, “Oh! That is exactly what I am looking for!”
She will click on one of the prompts and the AI will show the relevant clothing or product, and this increases the likelihood of completing the purchase.
Why use an AI stylist? As AI grows faster and better, it has now become a staple tool for companies—especially for those who are looking to adapt to the changing times.
Personalization refers to giving options that match a consumer’s tastes. A fashion AI is not the first one to use this technology, as we already see this daily on different platforms.
If you think about it, your YouTube feed has different content from your friends’. This is because the algorithm takes into account a few things, like:
What you watched recently
Your search history in YouTube
Your location
What you searched in Google Search
A fashion AI stylist does the same, but for clothing and overall fashion, not videos. The AI will look for clothing from within a store’s catalog, and this clothing matches exactly what the shopper is looking for.
To put it simply, the AI removes the randomness in your store recommendations. The experience is unique, personal, and most importantly, it matches the shopper’s intent and style.
Consumers leave an online store for various reasons:
They cannot find what they are looking for
The products do not match what is on their mind
The shop has a huge catalog and is difficult to use or navigate
An AI fashion stylist gets rid of these problems. Since it works as a chat box, the shopper can simply tell the AI something like, “Find me a black dress for an office cocktail party.”
The fashion AI will present dresses in the catalog, and the shopper merely has to choose the best one she likes and proceed to checkout.
A process like this fixes several causes of shopper friction, especially these two:
The shopper no longer has to click many links
The shopper does not need to do endless scrolling for products
The shopper does not have to deal with a broken search system
In addition, the shopper can ask the AI if there are products that match the dress, like a pair of shoes or a purse. The AI will respond accordingly, and if the shopper likes what she sees, she will complete the purchase. If she buys both the dress and the purse, the AI helps not only in conversion but also in increasing the average order value.
There is a concept about shopper loyalty called “effortless experience.” Research suggests that the less effort customers have to put in, the more satisfaction they get, and the more loyal they become.
To put this in context, just imagine a person dining in a restaurant. If she has to exert too much effort calling for a waiter, she becomes aggravated.
Similar emotions happen to fashion shoppers if:
The store seemingly does not have the product they want
The products they see in search results are irrelevant
They have to scroll through so many products
With a fashion AI stylist, all these causes of annoyance will go away. Using a hybrid AI search engine is also a good option, but a fashion AI stylist is much more interactive. It feels like the shopper is talking to somebody who will help them, and this is what drives engagement and eventually, loyalty.
There was a time when chat agents were real people. They are lined up in an office, sitting in a cubicle, chatting with either one or several consumers concurrently.
Just imagine having a human fashion stylist doing this work. You will probably need a few dozen or more. It is likely that this team will also be responsible for all sorts of customer inquiries, like refund policies.
A fashion stylist not only offers personalized recommendations, but you can make it answer policy questions, too. What this means is you can use only one AI, but for multiple purposes.
YesPlz is a suite of fashion discovery AI tools—from hybrid search to trends to an AI fashion assistant, the AI does many of the core duties required for an eCommerce fashion store to operate seamlessly. This section gives you a brief look at why YesPlz is an essential fashion store.
Mango and Zalando AI are built for their respective companies only. Although they have made significant contributions to the AI industry, their fashion AI stylists are still internal and proprietary.
And what does that mean? It means you cannot use them. Their AI assistants are exclusive to themselves.
YesPlz is the answer to this problem. Unlike other AI solutions, YesPlz is platform-agnostic and can be integrated with any system via its REST API. For Shopify users, YesPlz also offers a dedicated app specifically designed for seamless integration with Shopify stores..
Fashion has no boundaries. For example, fast fashion, high-end fashion, and Indian ethnic wear are a few categories of fashion. Unlimited creativity in fashion is a challenge for AI to learn.
We at YesPlz ensure that the fashion stylist AI undergoes proper training. It can adapt to different styles that your store is targeting. Our training programs make it possible for the AI to adapt to different fashion styles, terms, or vocabulary—all tailored to your catalog.
Certainly, you want your AI to reflect your brand, logo, and color themes. This creates the impression that your business is at the forefront of technology.
The fashion AI assistant from YesPlz is fully brand customizable. Here is an example:
The Zilo AI at the bottom center is a YesPlz fashion AI stylist, customized to reflect Zilo’s brand identity. Zilo is a company based in India. A start-up, YesPlz collaborated with them take the lead in introducing not just an AI stylist but also a suite of other AI-powered product discovery solutions.
You can customize the default clickable chat bubbles in your fashion AI stylist (the one highlighted in the image above).
You have the option to:
Add or reduce the number of prompts
Change the prompts and create answers
Create a prompt and direct its answer to a page (like refund policy)
Create a prompt and allow the AI to formulate the answer
The prompts are fully customizable, and you can make these adjustments as your market strategy changes. For example, you can create a prompt like “Show me Levi’s jeans” if you want to market the Levi’s brand in your store.
This prompt is one of the first things that the shopper will see, and it can help boost sales for a specific brand.
The AI can be trained to put a high priority on products that have similar properties, like brand name, style, new arrival, etc.
Here is an example situation:
You want the AI to promote a specific brand, like Hang Ten
A shopper says in the chat, “I am looking for tank tops.”
The AI stylist will show Hang Ten tank tops first before other brands
If you noticed, the shopper did not use the term “Hang Ten” at all. The AI showed the Hang Ten products on its own because it was trained to do so.
Why would you do this? For several reasons—perhaps you have a brand deal, or perhaps you have inventory you want to sell—it could be anything. What matters is that the option is there to help you market your products the way you see fit.
Data is the bloodline of any business, and there is no shortage of analytics with the YesPlz Fashion stylist. You can study the most popular prompts used in the chat box or which ones convert the most. These numbers give you a pulse of your consumer base, giving you the opportunity to create an action plan based on data.
An AI fashion stylist will eventually become the norm. Things like these used to be basic chat boxes, but they now operate at a higher level—capable enough to offer personalized experiences to millions of shoppers.
You have the power to implement the same in your eCommerce store. If you need to explore more or if you want to see a live demonstration, head over to our calendar and schedule a free consultation!
